Actress Miranda Otto to Join OILF Books To Film Panel


We're pleased to announce that critically-acclaimed actress Miranda Otto has joined our OILF Books To Film Panel which will take place during the 2018 Orcas Island Lit Festival. The panel discussion will focus on the unique creative process of adapting books into films and TV series. Otto is best known for her recent roles in Showtime's Homeland, 24: Legacy, and the following movies, including the Lord Of The Rings series, all of which are based on underlying literary works. Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Gilbert King is also confirmed for our Books To Film Panel.


The Lord of the Rings is a film series based on the novel The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. Miranda played Eowyn in The Two Towers and The Return of the King.

Reaching for the Moon is a 2013 film based on the book Flores Raras e Banalíssimas by Carmem Lucia de Oliveira. The film dramatizes the love story of the American poet Elizabeth Bishop, played by Miranda Otto, and the Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares.

The Thin Red Line is a 1998 American epic war film written and directed by Terrence Malick. Based on the novel by James Jones.

War of the Worlds is a science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg, loosely based on the novel of the same title by H. G. Wells. Otto stars opposite Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning.
